Cortana Microsoft digital assistant |
Windows phone group manager Marcus Ash are strategically looking at making cortana available on other competing platforms.
When Microsoft announced cortana back in April at its annual 2014 build conference its executives mentioned they was working on cortana before windows phone all the way back to 2009. At this stage cortana is still in beta development and Microsoft and its teams are working around the clock to improve the functionality of Cortana and make it look more of a direct competitor.
Keeping cortana only to windows phone wouldn't help Microsoft at all it would mean limited sales, small users and Microsoft wouldn't be able to showcase cortana's full capabilities.
Deciding to release Cortana across various platforms would give Microsoft some hope,it would also help them reach more customers and create a stronger brand for windows phone.
Potential problems Microsoft may face if they do decide to release cortana on cross-platform is the lack of deep intergration and it how it may work on other systems.
Expanding cortana beyond windows phone will be a huge risk for Microsoft especially as its trying to gain some new customers on the windows phone platform.
It will be interesting to see how this strategy works in the future hopefully Microsoft will carefully think about this strategy before making it available on other cross-platforms.
